As an inhabitant of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, as well as a photographer, I have been graciously blessed with a myriad of outdoor activities that me and my family have been privileged to enjoy all year round. One of my families favorite beloved outdoor activities are chasing waterfalls. They are to be revered and have provide us with a place to resting place to get in-tune with nature, and the scenes for numerous memorable picnic sites we have had throughout the years. I wish to share with you this comprehensive litany of 197 document-able waterfalls in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The waterfalls listed here within can be enjoyed during all seasons adding a different aspect of the seasonal beauty they hold. My suggestion for viewing these waterfalls are in the Spring, where the flow of water from the ice and snow-melt provides the full power of these waterfalls to be adorned. Some of these waterfalls are in locations that are very remote and treacherous here in the Upper Peninsula forest, and caution should be heeded. The forest in the Upper Peninsula is also inhabited by many woodlands creatures, both large and small. I also ask that you respect the land and enjoy with your eye's and leave only foot-prints behind. Some of these waterfalls are as small a trickle of water from a narrow woodland creek, and some as large as 200 feet wide with a 50 foot vertical drops like the jewel of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, the Tahquamenon Falls, which is one of the largest waterfall's east of the Mississippi River. All of the following waterfalls have not been visited by me personally and have given more details of the ones that I have. Agate Falls Seven miles southeast of Bruce Crossing at the roadside park on a unimproved trail, and the walking time will take about 15 minutes or less. It displays a 80 foot vertical drop. The 'Big Bay Outfitters" also provides map and guided waterfall tours. COMMENTARY| Whenever a television spinoff is announced the usual "Too much of a good thing" argument inevitably pops up. While successful spinoffs are nothing new, failing spinoffs seem to be just as common. For that reason, when a show like AMC's "The Walking Dead" is prepping another series, according to MNN, critics and advertising executives jump to attention and fans get a little squeamish in their seats. According to the Star-Ledger, "The Walking Dead" has just been renewed for a fifth season, which is not a surprise when the show is beating the World Series and the NFL in the ratings game. However, the spinoff will not be centered around the current group of survivors or even set in the same location. The new show will likely explore more of the universe created by Robert Kirkman, and that could be a very good thing. The current show is based on a comic book (or graphic novel if that's your thing), which means a fan base was already in place, and with more than twelve million people watching the current show, according to Variety, the sky is really the limit for Kirkman and AMC. In short, that is a massive audience for a potential timeslot lead off. While the cast of "The Walking Dead" has their own unique takes on what direction a spinoff should take, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the final product will likely serve as an additional tale to the suspense viewers are treated to every week. Viewers wanting more Rick, Daryl, and Michonne are out of luck, but those interested in the series enough can check out what is going on in a different location or even on a different timeline. Everything seems to be fair game right now, and the direction "The Walking Dead" spinoff takes is anyone's guess. AMC is having a ton of success with the zombie romp, and Kirkman is experiencing a Joss Whedon-like demand for his creative powers, and this could be the rare case where everyone is a winner. Fans get a new series, AMC gets more advertising dollars, and Kirkman and his team get to tell stories that have been off limits because they simply do not take place with the current team of survivors. A spinoff makes a lot of sense, but does the "Too much of a good thing" argument have a point? Fans and creators can simply counter with "You never know till you try." |

"The Walking Dead," Season 2, Episode 6, "Secrets" is about, as the title suggests, secrets, including secrets revealed, secrets kept, and secrets found out about oneself. All sorts of consternation follow. Spoilers also follow. The first secret is why Hershel has a barn full of walkers, shambling about and moaning to wake the dead if they were not already awake. It seems that the vet has a different attitude toward the undead than most everyone else. Those walkers are his family and friends. Just because they are sick is no reason to put them down. If they are isolated and fed chickens on occasion, they will be alright. Nothing but trouble will come of this, of course. There will be death and mayhem because of this choice. Another secret is Lori's pregnancy and the likely cause of it. A trip to get an abortion pill almost costs Maggie and Glenn their lives as they are jumped by a walker in the pharmacy. Lori considers ending the pregnancy, but at the last minute decides against it, even though it means bring a baby into a world that has become a hell. Rick, oddly, is more understanding about her carrying on with Shane than with the fact that she almost killed their baby. Speaking of Shane, he is having trouble teaching Andrea how to shoot at moving targets. Telling her that she shoots like a girl is not helpful. Nevertheless, he takes her on another Sophia-hunting expedition to what was once a new housing development. Unfortunately they find nothing but corpses, the laying down and the walking. Andrea finally gets her shooting groove and begins popping walker heads with one shot. Then she discovers something about herself. She likes killing walkers. She has at last found a reason to live. It is also very arousing to her, as Shane finds out on the way back, much to his delight. Shane, by the way, is still concealing what he did to Otis at the school. But suspicions are being raised that he has not told everything that happened. This is more foreshadowing of likely mayhem to come. |
